Hazardous cargo transportation

dengerHazardous cargo include toxic chemicals, radioactive, inflammables and explosives which, due to their potential danger demand special packaging, highly qualified cargo handling and a special regime of transportation. An attempt to economize on the delivery of hazardous cargos and, hence, the inobservance of the norms and rules of delivery of hazardous cargos may lead to unpredictable consequences, such as a fire, an explosion, a chemical contamination, an environmental contamination, and may become a health and life hazard for men.
That is why hazardous cargos transportation should be treated very seriously. This is a job only to be trusted to professionals!

Hazardous cargos are classified according to their hazard class. In order for the hazardous cargos delivery to be organized in compliance with all standards, it is necessary to define the hazard class of the cargo correctly. Depending on the hazard class labeled to the cargo, certain transportation and packaging rules are applied.

There are 9 major cargo hazard classes:

1st  class: Substances capable of causing a fire or an explosion. Usually these are pyrotechnic equipment which has a risk of explosion or inflammation of the whole cargo when being transported.
2 nd class: Gases and aerosols liquefied by cooling and dissolved under pressure (propane, methane, nitrogen, chlorine).
3rd class: Mixtures and liquids producing highly inflammable fumes with low and high temperature of
4th class: Highly inflammable materials and substances capable of inflating from a spark or a flame and also substances capable of inflating under normal circumstances.
5th class: Oxidable substances which, though not being inflammable by themselves, can release oxygen under aggressive factors and thus sustain combustion.
6 th class: These substances are considered less hazardous, and consist of toxic and infectious substances which can cause poisoning or death upon contacting them or if they get inside the body.
7 th class: Radioactive substances with specific activity of not more than 70 kilojoule per kilo.
class: Corrosive and caustic substances which, when getting onto the mucous membrane may cause rather strong tissue injuries, and also cause corrosion when contacting with metals. These substances may not be inflammable by themselves but may cause a fire when contacting ther
class: These are substances which do not belong to any of the classes described above. These are some combustible liquids and substances which, under certain circumstances, may become corrosive

Defining the hazard class of the cargo is a very important procedure. After the definition a decision is made on the way of packaging and transportation of a hazardous cargo and the cargo is being labeled according to the declared hazard class.
